On March 5, 2012 the CMT Insider App was published to the Apple App Store. 10 days later Apple has featured it in the Staff Favorites section of the App Store.

RustyBrick was contracted by MTV Networks to build out CMT Insider iPhone and iPad app. The app is designed to give you access to the biggest country stars in the world. The features include:

iPhone Siddur 5.0: Gesture Support Added

Suffern, New York - RustyBrick, Inc. is happy to introduce version 5.0 of the iPhone Siddur. The new version supports Apple's multi-touch gestures by enabling full screen mode, swipe to flip to a new section and pinch for font size controls.

"Currently, we have created the smartest Siddur [Jewish Prayer Book] on the planet," Barry Schwartz, the CEO of RustyBrick said. "Version 5.0 is our attempt at not just making the Siddur the smartest but also the easiest to use," Schwartz added.

Full Screen Mode:

Remove the navigation bars from both the iPhone and iPad version of the Siddur by simply double tapping the screen with your finger. The menus will go away and put you in a mode of full concentration and devotion to the text you are saying.

Swipe To Flip Sections:

To switch from one section of the prayer to the next, now just swipe your finger from left to right (Hebrew orientation) and the page will flip to the next section. This can replace those top navigation arrows in future releases.

Pinch To Zoom:

Now with pinch to zoom, you can control the font size of the text in the app. Instead of going to the settings screen and adjusting the font size, all you need to do is pinch to zoom. This pinch to zoom feature will not have awkward wrapping issues, it will act as a font size option instead.

"The latest version, version 5.0, is one of our 60 or more updates to the Siddur since we launched three and a half years ago," said Ronnie Schwartz, RustyBrick's CTO. The feedback we get from the Jewish community has been outstanding and our strongest motivation to continue to make improvements and future thinking updates to the iPhone Siddur.

Learn The Alef Bet On Your iPhone, iPod Or iPad

Suffern, New York - RustyBrick, Inc. has designed our first iPhone app designed specifically for Jewish children to learn the Alef Bet, the Hebrew alphabet. The application is an interactive and fun, study guide to be used by young children to learn the ABCs of the Hebrew language. The Alef Bet app is designed to work on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.

The iOS Alef Bet uses pictures, sound, animation, and interactivity to teach children the Hebrew alphabet. Each letter of the Alef Bet is accompanied by the hebrew pronunciation of the letter, a picture of a word associated with the letter and how it is pronounced in Hebrew and the English translation. In addition, you can play with the image, moving it, dipping cookies in milk, watching a train drive by and much more.

RustyBrick produced the design, coding, audio and animation all in-house.

I am excited to announce the release of our first ever Mac App named the Bencher for Mac.

Wouldn't it be great to pull out a quick Jewish prayer book that had typical Jewish prayers you might say by your computer? Well, that is exactly what this does. Birkat Hamazon, Al Hamichya, Borei Nefashot, Asher Yatzar and more with this app.

Best of all, it is currently free!

It is even smart siddur enabled, showing you the proper prayers specific to that day. Note, this version is based on the English day, not the Hebrew day, keep that in mind.

Audios For Bar Mitzvah Parshas Now Available In Tikun

Suffern, New York - We are proud to bring you a new feature that was highly request for the Tikun iPhone/iPad app. The feature allows you to download audio recordings of a professional Bar Mitzvah teacher reading from the Torah.

By listening to the reading of the Bar Mitzvah teacher, you can train yourself by ear to learn the torah yourself. This makes for an excellent supplement for your Bar Mitzvah training or for a refresher on reading new parshas or old ones.

Note: The available recording are currently in Ashkenaz format and not available for all Parshas as of yet but we will be adding more as we go. They can be purchased book (parsha) by book for $4.99 each.

The Ashkenaz reading is provided by Ira Slotnick, who is available for hire as a Bar Mitzvah teacher.

How Do You Purchase Audio?:

(1) Click on the left top index icon to bring up the Parsha list:

Then click on the top right price tag icon:

(2) Then price tag icons will show on the right of each Parsha that audio is available for download. Note, we will continue to add more and they do not require new app updates to show up in this list. We also will add more Nusachs.

(3) Clicking the price tag will trigger a confirmation that you want to download the audio for the app:

(4) Specify the audio quality: Low quality downloads faster and takes up less room on your device, while high quality sounds better but takes longer to download and takes up more space on your device:

(5) A download progress bar will appear after you select the quality:

(6) When the download is complete, you will be notified with this alert:

(7) Then the downloaded Parsha will be broken down into seven chapters (perakim), so you can listen to each chapter individually.

New Bar Mitzvah Learning Tool: Your iPad or iPhone

Suffern, New York - RustyBrick, Inc. is proud to announce today a revolutionary new Bar Mitzvah training application designed to work on iOS devices. The application is an interactive Tikkun, study guide used when preparing to chant the Torah reading from the Torah in a Jewish synagogue. The Tikkun is designed to work on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch devices.

The iOS Tikkun works very much like a paper Tikkun where the right side of each page is written with the cantillation marks and vowel points, while the left is written in unpointed Hebrew, as it is written in the actual scroll. But when you flip the device from landscape orientation to portrait orientation, it will only show you either the cantillation marks and vowel points mode or the actual scroll mode. You can quickly toggle between both modes with the tap of a finger.

Other interactive features include the ability to bookmark sections of the Torah, record audio to send to your bar mitzvah teacher via email or listen to later, Ta'amim chart with professional audio recording of a bar mitzvah teacher, zoom capability and much more.

The typesetter for this Tikun is by Divrei Emes and the audio laining is done by Ira Slotnick.

Free Nuclear Power Plant Detector iPhone & iPad App

Suffern, New York - RustyBrick, Inc. is happy to announce Apple has approved our Nuclear Power Plant Proximity detector app today.

The app is designed to show you how close you are to an active nuclear power plant. The app will first attempt to locate your current position and then inform the user how far the closest power plant is to that location.

The app also overlays historical earthquake data, which is highlighted in different colors of yellows, orange and red based on the severity and age of those earthquakes. It also contains fault line data within the United States and plots that on the map as well.

"The app idea came to me when my wife was asking me how close the Indian Point nuclear power plant station is to us," Barry Schwartz, the CEO of RustyBrick, said. " We turned out to be within 10 miles of the facility and it struck me that an app to determine your distance to nearby power plants would be a useful and educational tool," Barry added.

With additional features such as Wikipedia data on each power plant, real time alerts from the International Atomic Energy Agency and helpful tips on what to do in case of an emergency - that app can become a useful tool for those who are concerned of a distaster occurring.

Each section of the app gives you the traditional orthodox Jewish blessings made during the selling, searching and destroying processes. They also contain applicable times based on your GPS location for when you can search for the Chametz, stop eating the Chametz and burning the Chametz. The app helps you search for Chametz, the bedikat chametz, by giving you the halakhah, brachas zmanim, a checklist builder and a flash light. Megillas Esther iPhone App Now Works On iPad

We have updated our popular Megillas Esther iPhone App to enable it to work as a "universal" app, meaning, it works natively on an iPad and takes full advantage of the large screen.

The Megillas Esther iPhone App has the full content of the Megillah of Esther, including before and after blessings. It has five noise making sounds with the option to add more sounds at a fee. It includes Trup aka Cantoral Marks and now works just as well on an iPad.

Kosher Restaurants iPhone App Gains Maps & Augmented Reality View

It has been almost about two years since we released a major update for our iPhone Kosher App. Yes, we have released small updates recently, but this update is major.

We have added two main features and improved many of the already great existing features. The two new features include:

(1) Map View: You can now see on a map how close or far the various kosher restaurants are based on your currently location.

(2) Scope View (Augmented Reality): Pretend you are walking down the street and you want to know if a specific restaurant is before or after the tree in front of you. Well, with this augmented reality scope view, you can look through the lens of the iPhone and it will automatically plot the restaurants in front of you and around you.

I'll show screen shots of each of these features below. But let me explain some of the minor updates to this app. We improved the search feature to enable you to find restaurants in an expanded area around your search. You might not notice any change with that, but trust me, it comes in handy. We pre-loaded fresher database and made the data loading feature more stable.

Map View: Now plots dairy restaurants with blue pins and meat restaurants with red pins around your current location.

Happy Chanukah Android Users: Android Menorah

Chanukah is just around the corner and we thought it would be a fun treat to build a smart Menorah for Android users. So we released the Android Menorah today.

The Android Menorah is a lot like our iPhone Menorah but with some differences unique to the Android mobile platform.

The App provides:

Visual Aid for How to Light Each Night
Brachot and Traditional Songs in Hebrew, English and Transliterated
Brachot and Traditional Songs in Audio form
Indicator when the first night of Chanukah is (when not currently Chanukah)
Widget For Home Screen

The Widget is likely the only unique part of this app from the iPhone. You should also know that Hebrew won't render on Android OS version 2.1 or lower. Plus, Nikud with Hebrew is not supported yet also. But between the standard Hebrew, Transliteration and the audio - this should help any Jew light candles this Chanukah.

Selichos Now On The iPhone

Yesterday we released an update to our iPhone Siddur that included an Edut Mizrach English translation update and the ability to buy Selichos in the iPhone Siddur for Nusach Ashkenaz Lita.

This morning, our standalone Selichos iPhone App was approved by Apple. So if you do not have the iPhone Siddur, just download the Selichos app in iTunes. The app costs $2.99 or you can download the in-app purchase within the Siddur app for 99 cents.

Again, Selichos is Nusach Ashkenaz Lita and it only shows you the Selichos you need to say for that day/night.

iPhone Hebrew Translator Gains Copy & Paste, iAds & More

Apple has approved an update to the Hebrew Translator iPhone app. The update brings iOS4 stability and compatibility improvements. It also allows you to keep the app open for multi-tasking or backgrounding.

The most significant update was the ability to copy and paste from third-party sources into the app. For example, let's say you are viewing a web page that is in Hebrew, you can simply copy the text from the web page and paste it into the translator app. The translator will then use Google's technology to convert the Hebrew (or English) into English (or Hebrew). This was one of the most requested features. Below are some screen shots of how it works:

We also enabled you to use the native Hebrew keyboard. Just go to settings and flip the switch to make that happen. Finally, we added iAds, in addition to the already existing Google Ads.

In all seriousness, we thought it would be fun to release an iPhone App that sends out morse code signals through the iPhone 4's LED flash. Just type in your own message or select from a quick list of pre-defined shorthand messages and the app will automatically transmit LED flash pulses in morse code format to your friend. There is even a settings for speed of the flash.
